What Is a Salt Water Swimming Pool?
A salt water swimming pool is not chlorine free it uses a salt water chlorinator system to produce chlorine from dissolved salt. Pool grade salt is added at a low concentration (about 3,000–5,000 ppm, roughly one tenth of seawater). The chlorinator converts salt into chlorine through electrolysis, sanitising the water continuously. Once the chlorine disinfects the pool, it converts back to salt, creating a self-sustaining cleaning cycle.
Benefits of Salt water Chlorination
- Automatic and Consistent Sanitisation.
A salt water chlorinator produces chlorine consistently while the pool filtration is running. This ensures stable chlorine levels, reducing the risk of under or over-chlorination. - Softer, More Comfortable Water.
Salt water pools are known for their gentle, soft water. Lower chlorine fluctuations and dissolved salt help reduce eye and skin irritation. Benefits incliude: Softer skin, less irration to eyes and a more comfortable swimming experience for families and frequent swimmers.
